» Blog: Sneak a peek at the new home page

It’s time for a breath of fresh air on Glamlife. A lot of development work has been going on behind the scenes, but it’s been subtle work rather than eyecatching work. Therefore it’s all the more enjoyable to unveil an eyecatching new look for the front page. If all goes well, it will be launched by the end of next week.

It’s a revised design, rather than a revolution, but we’re immensely pleased with the result. The web development team have done splendid work.

As you can see, we will be trimming the length of the page, while at the same time making our promotional area more interesting, and giving the page a bit more visual impact. The Quicklinks area has been rearranged, and the area dedicated to the Glamlife Directory has been trimmed. Of course, the “Directory” link in the top navigation bar is still there, so you can still get straight to our reference section from the front page.

All in all, we’re hopeful that you will like this new design. Let us know what you think! Comment below, or email glamlife@glam.ac.uk. (Comments on the blog may appear after a delay, as we screen them for spam manually)

And if you want to book a promotion on Glamlife, get in touch – we’re confident the Glamlife effect will become even more noticeable when the new home page is applied!

» Blog: Glamlife statistics ... featuring …

Those using Glamlife on a regular basis can’t fail to have noticed all the changes that have taken place recently. One thing goes on unchanged though: we don’t shirk on our commitment to provide you with Glamlife usage statistics. The latest figures have now been posted and are available for downloading: March web stats.

But we were talking of changes… apart from the fact that the homepage of Glamlife looks very different, especially its constantly-changing promo area, it now carries an extra element. The graphic promos no longer just lead to information or links to websites: we now also have a features page.

This addition to Glamlife allows us to post magazine-style articles. These will be about student life, and the achievements of students and recent graduates . We hope this will be of interest to you. The most recent features were written by members of the Glamlife team, but we’re very keen to give student journalists and writers a chance to showcase their work. If you have a story – perhaps you’ve done something remarkable, or you know something you think others might find interesting – please let us know at glamlife@glam.ac.uk. We can then either write a feature, or help you produce one that can be published on Glamlife. We’re always looking for new articles to run.

We’d really like to know what you think of the new page, and of the feature articles we have posted so far. You can leave a comment below, or email us on glamlife@glam.ac.uk. (Comments on the blog may appear after a delay, as we screen them for spam manually.)

» Glamlife Blog: All change!

So we promised you a new look homepage for Glamlife – and as of today, when you log in to Glamlife, that’s what’s waiting for you.

The last Glamlife blog spelled out all the things that are new: the trimmed page length, the expanded promotional area and the rearranged Quicklinks area. Remember too that even though there’s a reduced amount of space dedicated to the Glamlife Directory, the “Directory” link in the top navigation bar is still available, so you can still get straight to our reference section from the front page.

We’ve also taken the opportunity to add in one more small change: the tab formally known as “Users” has now changed to “Students”.

Select this tab and it’ll take you to a list of all current students who, at some stage this year, have logged on to Glamlife. You can search by name(s) too: use the link to find a fellow student’s email address and faculty.

Prefer for your entry in this list to be accompanied by your own photo, or an image other than a little blue man? The answer is to add your own gravatar. Help is available on how to do this via our Gravatars page.

As ever, we’d really like to know what you think about the changes. Please use the area below to send us your comments, or email us on glamlife@glam.ac.uk. (Comments on the blog may appear after a delay, as we screen them for spam manually.)

Don’t forget that we’re taking bookings for our new promotions area on Glamlife now: book yours early, as some busy times of the year can get booked up long in advance. We’ll take bookings for Polls, too, if you have a question that you’d like to put to the student body.
