Funding Source: ESF Convergence Funding – Priority 3
Summary:
The University of Glamorgan’s Work Based Learning (WBL) scheme is one of several multi-million pound HE initiatives at different stages of assessment that aim to deliver higher-level skills in line with the key Welsh sectors identified by WAG:
Foundation Degrees (FD) – Pan Wales: UOG-led
Work-Based Learning (WBL) – Pan Wales: UOG-led
Access to Masters (ATM) – West Wales & the Valleys: Swansea-led
Knowledge Economy Skills Scholarships (KESS) – West Wales & the Valleys: Bangor-led
This is the first time that the Welsh HE sector has collaborated on such a scale, and it is hoped that this will result in a step-change in collaborative activity across the sector.
The WBL participants will obtain higher-level skills that will enhance their career opportunities, creating a long-term positive impact on the Welsh economy and skills base. The programme with offer bite-sized modular learning opportunities for those employed or living in the Convergence area in Wales who are not able to embark on full time education or are not ready to commit to a qualification such as a degree.
Running in line with the FD Programme we are opening up the second call for proposals for the WBL Programme. We are inviting institutions to submit a Project Idea Form (PIF) by 21st May 2010, which is aimed at providing the Programme Board with enough information to judge whether the submission of a detailed project delivery plan (PDP) is appropriate.
Please note the following ESF stipulations for the FD and WBL Programmes:
- Project participants (students) must be in (private sector) employment, and must live and/or work in the Convergence area of Wales
- Projects must address one or more of the following WAG Ministerial Advisory Group private sector priorities:
Energy; Environmental management; Telecoms & ICT; Bioscience; Health; Financial Services; Creative Industries; Automotive and Aerospace; Construction; Leisure and Tourism
For further information on the above, or on the funding process for the programme and to get the PIF template, please email the WBL Programme Team
