Summary: Strengthening the innovation capacity of European SMEs and their contribution to the development of new technology based products and markets by helping them outsource research, increase their research efforts, extend their networks, better exploit research results and acquire technological know how, bridging the gap between research and innovation.

Call Identifier: FP7-SME-2008-1

This call is open to all research fields for the benefit of particular groups (in particular SME’s).

• At least 3 participants must be independent SMEs established in at least 3 MS or AC.

• At least 2 participants must be RTD performers (having the capacity to carry out research at the request of SMEs), independent from any other participant.

The size of the consortium should typically be between 5 and 10 participants. The overall budget of the project should typically be between EUR 500 000 to EUR 1 500 000 and the duration of the project should normally be between 1 and 2 years.

Funding Source: Seventh Framework Programme (FP7)

Summary:

The ‘Regions of knowledge’ initiative aims to strengthen the research potential of European regions, in particular by encouraging and supporting the development, across Europe, of regional ‘research-driven clusters’, associating Universities, Research Centre’s, Enterprises and Regional Authorities. Two calls for proposals have recently been published.

Call identifier: FP7-REGIONS-2008-1

Activity: Analysis, mentoring, integration of research agendas and definition of Joint Action Plans

In this call, proposals should address one or both of the following topics:

• Maximising the benefits of research infrastructures for regional economic development

• Regional contributions to the reduction of CO2 emissions

Proposals must be submitted by and the selected projects will be lead by regional/local authorities.

The minimum number of participants: Consortia of a minimum of two regional research-driven clusters or a cross-border cluster composed at a minimum of six participants from at least two different European countries, consisting of research entities, business entities and regional/local authorities.

Sum: EUR 9.3m

Deadline: 14 March 2008

Activity: Facilitating the emergence of new regional research driven clusters and mutual exchange of information

In the 2008 call, proposals should address one or both of the following topics:

• Maximising the benefits of research infrastructures for regional economic development

• Regional contributions to the reduction of CO2 emissions

Proposals will be submitted by and the selected projects will be lead by regional/local authorities.

The minimum number of participants must be: at least 3 participants (one research entity, one business entity and one regional/local authority) coming from the same region for “facilitating the emergence of new research driven clusters” or one research driven cluster for “exchange of mutual information activities”.

Sum: EUR 800,000

Deadline: 14 March 2008
