The Royal Society are launching an Enterprise Fund, an important initiative from the Royal Society aimed at supporting business opportunities based on outstanding technology. The Fund is in effect an early-stage investment fund, capitalised by philanthropic donations to the Society, which will invest in early-stage companies.

All financial returns will be recycled into the fund for reinvestment, creating an ‘evergreen’ but commercially run fund which will grow in size with time, helping future technology-based businesses.

This initiative is designed not only to provide practical help to early-stage companies but also to encourage increased awareness of and support for commercialisation activities within university departments.

The Royal Society has for many years been funding near-commercialisation research through the Brian Mercer award scheme, and the Enterprise Fund is an extension of our active support for innovation.
