» Update to Glamlife events system

If you’re observant you may already have noticed that the way events are handled by Glamlife has changed recently. The system has been further integrated with Google calendar and personalized, so that the information you see should be more relevant to you and easier to make use of.

Screenshot of Glamlife homepage showing changes to events system.

On the Glamlife home page the ‘Your Events’ box on the left hand side now only shows events from channels you’re subscribed to (you can modify your subscriptions on your account settings’ News Subscriptions page).

For each event there’s a link to more information about it, and a button to add the event to your Google calendar. Note that adding an event to your calendar doesn’t book you a place at that event, you’ll still need to follow any instructions in the event listing about how to do that.

You can still find out about events on channels you’re not currently subscribed to using the completely new ‘Events’ link on the navigation bar near the top of the screen. This leads to a list of all events on all channels.

The system has been tested but if you do find a problem please let us know. We always aim to improve things.

» Update on the reinstatement of the University’s electronic services (including assignment deadlines)

Efforts are continuing to restore the University’s IT services following the weekend incident caused by the cold weather.

Work on restoring full service to Blackboard is taking longer than expected due to the amount of data required to be reinstalled. As such full service to Blackboard is now unlikely to be reinstated until Thursday morning (2nd December 2010).

Further to the systems problems and the possible impact on students completing and/or submitting assignments, students can be assured that they will not be disadvantaged as a result of the University’s IT issues.

The University position is that any assignment due to be submitted between 29th November and 10th December is extended to 13th December. This supercedes any previous position announced on Facebook and applies to all Faculties.

Printing and copying services are available to staff and students in Glamorgan Print on Treforest campus central avenue. Work must be brought in either on a CD or a USB stick and the team will endeavour to offer you an instant service. Please note queues are possible so please leave plenty of time. At ATRiuM, printing is available in the usual printing facilities for staff and students.

This basic version of the student portal, Glamlife, has been created with limited functionality to post news and provide you access to your email and some other core services. Full services will be reinstated in line with the prioritisation agreed by the University’s contingency management team.

The University’s main website http://www.glam.ac.uk is still in the process of being reinstated and functionality will return incrementally as the various parts of the site are switched on.
