If you’re a student, you may have noticed some changes to the front page of Glamlife. If you’re a member of staff, you might have seen that the link to Glamlife from Inform has changed…

Depending on how long you’ve been here, you will (hopefully) have noticed many changes. This week, “Your Documents” have been added to Glamlife. Last week, “Your Profile” appeared. And before that, quick polls, user information, and … well, let’s just say features have been appearing on Glamlife on a fairly regular basis since last year.

We’ve not always written much about the changes. It’s never too late to make a start, though, so we’ve decided to launch this blog to keep you posted.

We’ve already spread the word about Your Documents to get you interested. Word processing, spreadsheets and presentations from any computer with an internet connection? For free? No risk of losing your documents? 7GB of storage space? It sounds like the “lost USB stick” should no longer have to be a massive problem for your coursework. Give it a try and let us know what works for you (and what, if anything, does not).

Meanwhile, Glamlife is also taking baby steps into social features. The user directory allows you to find the email address of your friends. It’s only available if you’re logged in, and replaces the Global Address Book you might have used through MS Outlook in the past. To make things a little friendlier, you can add a (gr)avatar image to your own profile, and link to your Facebook account. Why? Apart from chances to win your share of £500 in prizes, these things will be useful in the future, when Glamlife’s community features are developed.

The other change this week is that staff are finally getting a better sneak peek at Glamlife. Our old staff guide (that rather long Word Document) did not really do the trick. So, if you are a member of staff, have a look at http://inform.glam.ac.uk/glamlife/ to get a more direct feel for the site. Some parts of the screenshot will go out of date after a while, but the page should be a big step towards letting you know what students see behind the login, and, more importantly, how you can get your information, news, events, and promotions up on Glamlife.
